The Red Cross recommends the time period b/w blood donations is 56 days, however 45 is suffice. Donating platelets can be done b/w periods of 14 days, so you should be fine. :D

Strange side effects after donating blood?

I donated blood for the first time at a school blood drive. I'm 16, 5'4", and 115lbs. The lady fudged up my numbers a bit so I could donate, putting my weight up to 119, and warned me that my reaction might be a bit worse due to my small build. I agreed anyway. On my left arm, after examining and marking, a nurse inserted a needle. Of course, my luck would have it that something would go wrong. There was a kink in the tube and it absolutely killed. I think she moved the needle a little to get to my vein then discovered the tube, the memory's a bit fuzzy because of the pain and fear at the time. She warned me of bruising and tenderness, etc then asked if I still wanted to donate, so I said yes (I'm stubborn haha). They went to my right arm and the blood flow was slower and vein was smaller so it was a more shallow injection. After the donation, I got the side effects like they predicted. I was dizzy, sleepy, headache, woozy, kind of an out of body feeling. My best friend took care of me, he got food and watched me for the rest of the day (we skipped the rest of the classes because both of our mental states were not good). The weird thing is that there are like spasms of pain on my left arm, the arm they screwed up on. I still feel them today (2 days later). It's like some times when I straighten my arm, there's a tingly feeling that runs down my forearm and settles in the base of my inner wrist. On the day of the donation, one thing that I remember clearly was sharp, shooting pains near the injection site like the feeling when your arm or leg falls asleep, but in the area where the needle was inserted. Other times it would run down my arm. There is a huge bruise around that spot, about 3 in long and 1.5 in wide and blue. I'm assuming that it's normal because they punctured the vein and the blood had nowhere to go, so it's normal but unfortunate. It's just those weird pains and feelings that I'm getting on that arm. The 2nd donation (right arm) is perfectly fine though, just a small bruise. Is it normal? Should I get it checked, or will it go away in a few days?
