Can 2D Barcodes be used as digital watermark in images?

I'm trying to use 2D Barcode as watermar in digital images, does it work? Will it be beneficial to use barcode instead of text as watermark? I think barcode's ability to correct errors occurred as a result of manipulation with the images, will help enhance the recovery possibility.Remarks are more than welcome!
