My mom has always exaggerated things. Growing up I remember her telling us how important honesty was, yet she'd say things that were untruthful. I remember on several occasions when there was a movie I really wanted to see, she would tell me it was very inappropriate and had nudity etc- which I later found to be 100% fabricated when I did finally watch it. Once, she lied to my then 11 year old younger sister (when i was 20 and moved out w/ a girl I knew from school) and told her I was living with a male friend who had stopped by my parents home ONE time when i still lived w/ them. I was furious when I found out years later that my baby sis had such a warped tale told to her. Other things mom does now is act like she is really against something/for something depending on who she's around. EX: i brought up something about a certain trait w/ an astrological sign when we were with friends and she adamently said 'i don't believe in astrology. Its not for me...i trust God' - when she's happily engaged in those convos w/ me always. She recently told me about a house (im looking to move) and boasted it having 2 bedrooms and the landlord living in a detached garage that wasnt close to the house. When i looked at it, it had ONE bedroom and one closet-sized spot i wouldnt ever call a room. The garage was 5feet from the house, and you could see inside from the bedroom in the rental! I asked her about these things before I looked at it and she reassured me. Its irritating and makes me feel i cannot trust my her feedback in alot of ways because she exaggerates to such an extreme..i consider it lying.When I'm dealing with situations in relationships with people (especially work related or friends) she'll encourage me to basically exaggerate my emotions to get pity and have my needs met- to which I always tell her no...'I like telling ppl how I really feel...not say my feelings are very hurt when I'm simply annoyed.' She also seems to have a lot of insecurities she's made apparent, by the inconsistencies in the way she does things. (she copies other people in a heartbeat and will try diets, extreme religious things and even listened to some crazy lady about y2k and stocked up on food!) Anyhow, now im now 30 and wondered why shes like this...always and still. I never feel the need to embellish things much or not tell someone the honest truth. What gives with her behavior?
