"A qualitative analysis determines if a substance is present. A quantitative analysis determines how much of the substance is present. For example: If the substance is chlorine in water; the qualification test is done using silver nitrate as the reagent. A drop of normal silver nitrate when put into a small quantity of water will turn milky when if chlorine is present To determine quantity a titration test can be done with a color change giving the quantity. Or there are strips when used change color that is compared to a sample."
